We followed the Elk Meadows trail to the creek then skinned along the creek until we came to the last open area of Gnarl Ridge (ie, before Gnarl Ridge gets gnarly) and skinned up that. We skinned along Gnarl Ridge towards the Newton Clark glacier in the general area of the Timberline trail. As we got towards the end of the canyon, we did a long rising traverse north to Tie in Rock. With each stride the views of the east side of Mt Hood, the WyEast face and the Spider, gave way to the northeast side of Mt Hood, the open face of Cooper Spur and the edges of the craggy NE gullies. We had discussed going slightly passed TIR but the ridge rolls quite a bit before it starts climbing, so the effort vs extra skiing didnt seem worth it. We descended the bowl immediately below Tie in Rock which had nice corn:

We schussed across the glacier and headed to the left bowl at the head of Newton Creek canyon. We descended the bowl which contained more nice corn. Jonathan towards the end of the bowl:

We schussed down the canyons floor thru the canyons craggy gates and back to HRM.
This is a great tour. Even though we skied in the Newton Creek area on Saturday, this tour had a completely different feel.
