Montana avalanche fatality

Incredibly sad. This was a relatively small avalanche. However, the description suggests transceivers were not used.

Very tragic.  We veteran climbers honor Michael Kennedy for his climbing prowess and for editing CLIMBING Magazine for many years.  What a horrible set of circumstances for the parents in a climbing family to have to face.
My heart goes out to all involved, and to everyone who faces the loss of a loved one.

Very sad story.... There have already been several skier triggered avalanches in southern Montana, especially considering the low early season snowpack in some of the areas - mostly high winds causing wind slabs.

Detailed report here on the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center site, will answer some of the questions in previous posts:

VERY SAD....

Learned somewhere: "most avalanche fatalities occur in slides of 300' or less".
