A backcountry splitboarder triggered the avalanche on a convex section, that was also part of an avy path. The hazard rating was Considerable. The fracture was 18", that stepped down to 4 ft. in places.
A separate avalanche involved a snowmobiler in Montana. This was the fourth fatality of this season.
