Locations for "basecamp" touring in the PNW was created by Evan Breen
Hi all,
I'm looking to do some overnight trips and am looking for any advice on places that would be good to tour in, set up a basecamp, spend a few nights, tag a bunch of nice lines in the area, pack up, and tour out. I'm currently thinking about something like Crystal Lakes or maybe Snow Lake and all the lines around them. Any thoughts on this are much appreciated. (I'm based in the Seattle area but would definitely drive for a good trip)
Thanks

The possibilities are endless. I would pick somewhere that you wouldn't normally go to on a day trip to make it worth it.

This might sound too easy and less gnarly than what you have in mind but here it is. It costs a bit of money but is not unaffordable. Go to White Pass and rent a studio condo across the street from the resort. Buy a lift ticket. Ride to the top of chair 6 and ski to the bc gate and ski down to Miriam Lake and then spend the day touring and skiing the Hogback Cordillera to your hearts content. Hike back to the resort ski down to your digs and the lodge bar,and repeat the next day or days. Just like being in Europe only way way cheaper. Wait for the next snowfall and series of storms to make it worthwhile. PM me for any details if you have never been there, best to go with someone who can show you the way.
