[Hood] White River/Wy'East crevasse hazard? was created by prayforsnow
Hi all,

Planning a solo ski this weekend—eyeing a route up the White River Canyon, then popping up onto Wy'East, stopping above the Steel Cliffs, and skiing down more or less the way I came.

I was up on the summit/south side route last weekend and things looked pretty filled in, but the East side is all terra incognita to me. Can anyone tell me if I need to worry about crevasses this time of year? For what it's worth, I won't be going high up on the White River Glacier—planning to cut North to gain the bench beneath Wy'East.

Thanks!

Not a local but yes, early season is when you definitely need to worry about crevasses. I believe there is a bergshrund on the Wy'East face and that the White River glacier has some crevasses. Approaching via Meadows avoids the worst crevasse hazard but I don't think it's allowed if the resort is open.
