Kayak/Ski Ross Lake was created by blackdog102395
In an effort to do something a little bit different, I have been thinking about a Ross Lake kayak/ski combo. I kayaked the area many years ago, but I'm generally ignorant of what would be holding snow and worth while at the beginning of July. I think paddling around the lake, pulling up, and setting out on a day hike/ski trip would be pretty fun. Any thoughts on logical objectives and whether this early Saturday morning day dream is worth the effort before I actually pull out the maps and determine feasibility?

The elevation of Ross Lake is only 1500, so it will be a long haul to skiable snow from the lake.

About a decade ago a friend (who now lives in New Zealand) did a solo kayak and ski trip up Ross Lake to Mt Prophet in early July. He said the kayak aspect was a lot of fun, but not necessarily very efficient, since you could just hike the trail around the lake. He ascended Prophet via the shoulder west of 39 Mile Creek.
Whether the climb up Prophet is worthwhile for the skiing is of course a matter of personal taste.

Kayaking is only second to touring for me, so I don't mind that it might not make the most "sense." I actually would consider putting in from the north to give a longer kayak. I suppose we could just keep walking all the way to Luna. Maybe I should just save my cash and head for Lyngen and do it right

Yes, more of a spring thing (April?) if I remember correctly from reading your exploits. That trip is tops on my bucket list.
