Training your pup to be a touring partner

Hello,

I am the proud mom of an adorable 4 months old Australian Shepherd puppy who I am hoping to train to be a touring adventure buddy. I am curious whether anybody has tips and tricks of how to get pups started early and how to train the most effectively for a safe time in the mountains.
