The problem is that the people who post those updates don't get to work before 9. And they're not salaried, so they have zero motivation to send out a tweet when they're not on the clock.
When we rolled into the park entrance yesterday just a little after 9am, there was still a sign up in the window indicating that the road to Paradise was closed. I asked the lady checking our pass about it and she said the road was open and she'd forgotten to take the sign down. Incompetence to the extreme down there right now...

They don't post to Twitter early enough, amongst other issues.

No cars in the (only wet) parking lot right now, no Twitter update. Ominous signs for someone making a decision, I think r1de was right.

I think Heliotrope or Hood are sure (but miserable) bets at this point. Unless you live close to Mt Rainier, making the long drive to Longmire gambling on gate being open is a pain. The NPS deciding to close the gate due to weather (or if key people call in in sick)

On Monday the Paradise comfort station was locked -- they did have three port-a-potties parked in front of the comfort station -- though the one I hit at 3:30PM was approaching "full". No running water at Paradise. The comfort station at Narada Falls was open. Also the Steven's Canyon road was blocked off with a snow berm.

Yeah, 100,000 gallon leak with old failing asbestos pipes linked up to the spanking brand new visitor center and it looks like with no shut off that can keep water to the other restrooms with little hope in sight for discovery of the leak if it keeps snowing ... be interesting.
