Ok, I have half a mind to get one of these and do some burial testing to see what results I get, just for kicks... www.thetileapp.com/

Unless someone already has?

...and no, of course I'm not thinking that it could replace an EN-approved, three-sigma, UL listed, Chuck Norris-tested, fully swiss-engineered beacon with full batteries, along with the requisite practice with said device, good decision making, and a diet rich in vegetables and healthy fats ;-)

The tiles are pretty efficient for finding keys in a laundry basket, but their range is too limited for finding anything lost out of the house. They might help find your dog, if he is buried no more than a few yards away.

I was given a bunch for Christmas to put on my wallet, sunglasses, key rings and other things I constantly lose track of. Now, if I could just remember where I put them!

That's funny that the range is so short. In the promo vid they have some guy jogging across the street from a building with a stolen laptop on the 3rd floor or something and it detecting the tile.

If you want something passive get some Recco reflectors and put them in your pack and pockets. Many patrols and SAR units have detectors now and will deploy those out to the field quickly. That said, these are really most effective for recovery, not rescue.

Of course, a beacon + experience is going to be your best bet.
