Mt Rainier Question was created by spresho
I'm headed down to Rainier later in June to ski/bivy/ski in the vicinity of the Paradise Glacier. I was looking at the MORA website for permit information and saw that you need a $45 climbing permit to be on glaciers above 10,000', which the Paradise Glacier is not. I e-mailed the Registration and Permit office to ask some questions about this trip and was told that if I am going onto the Paradise Glacier, I will need a climbing permit. The website says one thing, the park personnel says another.
Anyone willing to shed some light on this conflicting information?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe not the answer you are looking for, but I would try asking fewer questions. I think if you are on a glacier you are "supposed" to have a permit even if below 10K, but it is not something I have wanted to know the exact answer to if it exists.

Check the website again:
Climbing Pass - Anyone who wishes to climb above 10,000 feet or onto a glacier must purchase a climbing pass.
Cheers

So technically anyone who hikes up to Camp Muir or The Inter Glacier needs a climbing permit?

I know the Muir Snowfield is not considered a glacier, as it's name implies. Don't know what the Inter-glacier is considered.
