The print edition of the Seattle Times stated that a rescue operation was still in progress.

The on line edition states the victim was rescued overnight with two broken legs.

I'd appreciate any additional information from anyone on the scene.

Out as of just after midnight. Big combined effort from SPART, KC ESAR and Seattle, Tacoma and Everett Mountain Rescue. My understanding is a skier-triggered slide at the top of the Slot and a ride to the bottom, ending up near the Crooked exit. Was extracted up the typical exit and down through Phantom trees.

Spoke with his ski partner on the way down and it sounded like it was a wind slab that went wall to wall 5" - 6" deep. It sounded like it broke fairly high, maybe just after the run turns back to the left after the entrance. Hopefully we will hear more details from him later.

It was snowing and blowing the entire afternoon up there and the snow quality near the Notch was actually dry. There was a lot of wind transport into the north bowl from the Notch so it was easy to believe the same had and was happening at the Slot.

I would really think twice / three times about skiing the Slot for a few days since I would bet another wind slab formed up in there. It is neither a fun or short time getting hauled out from Thunder creek basis...

A big thank-you, as always, to everyone involved in the rescue. Heal well, unknown friend.

Thanks for the extra info Erik - good to see you last night.

It was blowing hard and dumping most of the afternoon and evening - a good foot and a half just above the parking lot by the time we came down.

that sounds like the spot. Right below the initial entrance when it turns left and widens there's a roll-over (classic breaking point). Often gets wind loaded.

Here's a pic with a similar size crown taken from right below the rollover, early May 2012

yes. or if you do, it's always a good idea to do a rigorous ski cut, or even a belayed ski cut.  Even a small slab can add up fast.

heal well!
