It's true - you can go bigger and faster on skis. Not so sure about spinning - i lost count how many times I wiped out in 1990 trying 360s on my 175 Volkls and it took much much less to pull a 540 on my snowboard.
Anyway, snowboarding is more fun
I guess skiing started for the utilitarian purpose of getting around in snowy terrain, while the reason we have surfing and snowboarding is that people were looking to max fun time. Nobody snowboards because it's more efficient than skiing.
