anybody ever ski Ollalie Butte? was created by rootsman
I've looked at it many times and wondered about getting in there for some turns. Just read this posting on Portland Hikers and it got me thinking. Anyone have any experience there?

I have asked the same question several times after flying over it a couple years ago. I know parts of the butte lies on a reservation and supposedly access could be difficult. I'm not sure how one can gain access since the resort nearby is closed during winter and I believe the forest road as well. I would definitely be interested to hear if someone gets a few turns up there while the snow last.

Me and a buddy skied it a couple years ago. We waited until early June, when the road would clearly be open. We accessed from the public forest service side (from the NW) roughly following the summit trail from where the utility lines cross the road (access from the east belongs to the Warm Springs Reservation). Being a weekday and an obscure ski destination, we were pretty surprised to meet a couple guys with snowboards arriving on top shortly after us. The views on top were nice and it was a great to day to be out, but the ski down was mediocre at best, we were probably a bit late in the year. There is somewhat steeper terrain to the east, but again, that descends to the Warm Springs Reservation.
