Descend into St Helens crater? was created by jtree
This might be a dumb question but can you ski the lines down into the St Helens crater? Is it allowed/safe/illegal/stupid/awesome/etc.?

These guys did it in Chile and it got me thinking, but I assume there are no rules (or lawyers) there... and then it erupted a year later or so.

Just look at the first photo from this post !

Tempting, I agree - but 100% illegal.

Not legal, somewhat risky due to the steepness of the slopes where both snow and rock avalanches are common.   At least before the latest dome building event, snowmoblies have been observed circumnavigating the dome in the crater.

Thanks for the photo plug!

Way tempting. Beautiful lines in there. Some huge schrundage, too.

Thanks for the info, guys! The USFS map makes it pretty clear that this is a no-go in their eyes. Probably there are better, safer, more legal lines to ride elsewhere.
