Helens in April - do permits sell out? was created by Krummholz
Some friends and I are planning on skiing mt st helens in april. We'll need a permit - but how far in advance? Summer weekends are already all sold out. Do the spring months sell out as well? We're hoping we can hold off and pick the day with the best weather.

Its been a few years since I've skied St.Helens....looking at the website, it does seem like the rules have changed slightly (such as the requirement to get permits 24 hrs in advance in the springtime), but it used to be that prior to May 15th there wasn't a cap on the number of climbers allowed on the mountain each day. I didn't see anything that said there was a winter/springtime limit, but maybe I missed that.

Might be worth a call to ask the Forest Service directly.... if you're going before May 15th you might not need to get a permit any more than the minimum 24 hours in advance.
