Hi All,
I am new to AT skiing and wanted to know if anyone could recommend either groups that ski on a regular basis, classes or anything like that. Do not know anyone that does backcountry and am excited to get started. Thanks for any recommendations. Located in Portland but travel to Bachelor quite a bit too. Tbone

be careful who you trust when venturing into alpine terrain, not all leaders look out for the best interest of the group.

An AIARE I (avalanche class) can be a good way to meet up with folks who are looking for touring partners and get learn enough about self rescue to be a contributing partner in the BC.

If you are in the Seattle area the Washington Ski Touring Club (WSTC.org) is a great way to get started. They have a very nominal membership fee of $20/yr, have monthly meetings where you can meet people, and most importantly organize trips to all members that are run in a manner that is safe and typically includes a skills learning / practice session before heading up the hill for the day.
