Downhill Skiing - Otto Lang was created by CMSkier
I was doing some clean up in the basement and came across a copy of Downhill Skiing by Otto Lang. Copyright 1936, liberated from the Lyden High School library in 1940 by one of my uncles who possible knew Otto when he was teaching at Mt Baker. Passed down to my mom who used the book to learn to ski, also at Mt Baker, it's been sitting in a box since '95. If someone would like to give this book a good home, let me know. I'd rather someone preserve it than let it get lost or eBay it.

I collect that kind of thing and would love it. I may already have that one though, need to check. Cool history for sure.

I have a personal copy of this book. (I inherited it from my brother Carl, who got it signed by Otto Lang several years ago.)

I checked the old catalog for the Mountaineers Library and it appears that the library does not have a copy of this book. I would be happy to add it to the Mountaineers collection.

(Note that the Mountaineers Library is not currently open for business. It is in the midst of a major reorganization and downsizing. So, if you donate the book to the Mountaineers it won't be accessible right away. But we're working on that....)

My vote was going to be for Lowell if he didn't alredy have it but Mountaineers Library seems like perfect recipient.  A good friend lost his copy in a cabin fire at Hyak many years back so I was going to try to be your fall back plan.  This book I recall was the first time I heard the term "Vorlage", great content, and a must-read for anyone who considers themselves a ski-enthusiast.
Cool find.

Hello Ken, Lowell-
Any chance of the book being scanned, say by Amazon, with net proceeds to backcountry charity of choice - so book could be available on line for download.  Am not sure how much work is involved there, but would give much larger pool of people the opportunity to read, as well as contribute.  Just a thought,
Thanks

The book was copyrighted in 1936 by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.

According to the following webpage:

copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm

the book is in the public domain if the publisher did not renew the copyright. If the publisher did renew the copyright, then the copyright will expire in 2031 (95 years after publication).

I don't know what the copyright status of this book is. Anybody wanting to digitize it should tread carefully.
