Is there a discussion thread on base repairs, or should this be the start? I was wondering if anyone has a sure fire method of repairing bases next to the edge. Also, is there a petex that anyone has found that works the best? The stick I have been using lately seems pretty soft.

I've had good luck repairing base damage near edges using 'Metalgrip Repair String' from Tognar Toolworks:
www.tognar.com/metalgrip-repair-string-5-roll-clear-or-black/
and I melt it in place using their p-tex repair iron:
www.tognar.com/tognar-p-tex-base-repair-iron-120v-us-can/
The Tognar site says that the metalgrip stuff is softer than pure ptex so they recommend doing a thin layer of the metalgrip then layering ptex repair string over the top ( www.tognar.com/p-tex-repair-string-10-clear-or-black/ ) but I'm lazy.. I just goop the metalgrip stuff into the gouge and scrape/sand it flat.

Jamie,
I use the metal grip string and an iron that Pete A referenced. If you need some help let me know, it works great. You know I use a lot of it from skiing around here.

Got the same set up through tongar and use the wire as well. I found that stuff settles in hard and is more challenging to scrape away. Seems to be an ideal season thus far for home tuning! Plenty of opportunity to try different techniques for repairs. My bench is in the garage so temp is not warm. Bringing the sticks in before a repair, letting them warm up overnight and then tackle them on the bench is helping.
