I am still trying to understand how there is a conflict with less than 1,000 people living within 50 miles of the Silver Star/WA Pass corridor that there are enough skiers to completely track up that valley with NCHS operating as well. There are fresh tracks at Stevens, Snoq, Mt Baker & Crystal's back country with over 4,000 spilling over from the ski areas every sat & sun.

The Wasatch is truly where bc riders are under siege from the heli and ski area expansion issues with their trailheads within 25 miles of downtown SLC and ski areas and private property encompass large sections of Big & Little CWC..

How many bc tourers, without sleds versus with sleds are actually riding on a daily basis that need several hundred thousand acres of untracked? Judging from the demographic data for the Mazama/Winhrop area(less than 500 people) 98% white, 51+%female, with most of Mazama out of the labor force what percentage of the town is touring up hwy 20?
It seems NCHS actually is one of the larger employers in town with over 5+ employees and a draw for tourists staying in the Inns employing the rest of the labor pool? Why not try to simply coordinate on with locals & NCHS to determine where everyone is riding so you can avoid riding with each other?

Given the data I found at Wikipedia and the CIA I am not sure why you need the federal government spending money to get rid of one of the largest generators of local private & public revenue, when their impact seems to only affect a small portion of the white male population.

Mazama Demographic
40 to 64 Years Old 48 (73%)
65 Years Old or Over 12 (18%)

Employed (Civilian) 24 (36%)
Not in Labor Force 32 (48%)
Unemployed 10 (15%)

This appears to be a case where data obtained from Wikipedia and the CIA does not add up to on-the-ground understanding.

No one is trying to shut down NCHS, as long as they play by the rules established for them. They're trying to make sure NCHS plays a "clean game," as mattfirth said.

Then why the need for the TAY campaign? This is a matter between NCHS, USFS and local plaintiffs.

My bad. More explanation: when someone googles "backcountry skiing in WA" or something similar to that, this site definitely comes up. Then they start digging around.

My opinion is it's best to leave the fed conversations off line, this has the potential to create some serious backlash for other, unregulated backcountry user groups. Can you imagine if some hardcore environmentalist got wind of this and took it upon himself/herself to all-of-a-sudden try to regulate snowmobile access? This stuff scares me, people. There's not a whole lot of "clean game" with those of us who use snowmobiles to ski. I'm part of the problem for sure. And definitely paranoid.
