Supervisor King told me in writing on November 26 that the guide services would NOT be allowed to access Paradise this season when it was closed to the public. ..  "The answer to your second question is, no, access to Paradise will not be available to the park's guide services when the road is otherwise closed to public vehicle access."

Thought some might be interested that I XC skied up to Cougar Rock today and encountered a guide service winter seminar with half a dozen tents set up in the unplowed campground.    8)    Judging by the snowshoe trails in all directions, they had been there the past several days when Paradise was closed.

Better enjoy the next two weeks at Paradise, if and when you can, folks.  Roadwork delays of up to an hour start March 3 below Longmire and will probably last through the summer:

assuming they get the snow plowed :-)  [of course, they will start at the entrance and work their way up; notice they'll be installing more conduits and fixing road bed, so the roads will be even rougher until they can completely repave; notice no mention of fixing the problems at the Tahoma Creek Bridge or Tahoma-Nisqually Confluence, so if they get the road fixed up nice, another big flood could take out the section at Tahoma Creek and preserve the upper road for future generations.  I would have opted to fix the pressing danger points before redoing the road. I wonder if they are going to replace Uberuaga's million dollar culverts which he stated in public was another accident waiting to happen.]

Sorry, Dave's been "disciplined" for his numerous indiscretions (one of which was referred to federal prosecutors) by being promoted to one of the most prestigious Supt. jobs in the NPS. The dude that wrote him up and has since promoted him twice is now the head of the NPS. Accountability? None.

LMAO--latest Mt. Rainier NP update: "While all this fresh snow provides some fantastic skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing opportunities, it also presents some acute, specific dangers skiers and riders need to be aware of- snow immersion suffocation and avalanches."

For whom? Have the climbing rangers and LEOs been getting after it? I remember when they closed the park for the entire winter waiting for culverts, an LEO friend of mine got 50 days of backcountry skiing in.

4 inches of new:

Closed again!  Great Dawg Almighty, closed again!

The skier frowns,
as the supt smiles knowingly;
as snow falls down,
the weather smiles, snowingly;
plow driver frowns,
wanting to be plowingly;
the teapartier smiles,
he wants to be taxfree.
