Winterfest 2013 - Port Angeles, 11/23/13

Again this year, the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation will host Winterfest, a fundraising event supporting ski education at “the Ridge”. The proceeds from Winterfest provide scholarships for ski school students and ski team athletes who could otherwise not afford to participate in these activities. Additionally, equipment necessary to provide ski education is funded by this event. Examples include a new grooming machine, replacement lift motors and replacement ropes for the tows. The net revenue has exceeded $30,000 for the last several years.

This year’s Winterfest will be held on Saturday, November 23th, 2013 at the Vern Burton Community Center. The doors open at 5:00 pm. The evening will consist of a catered Prime Rib dinner, wine and beer garden, live and silent auctions and a presentation of several locally produced backcountry ski films.

Winterfest usually attracts about 300 local skiers and riders along with their friends and family. The food is good, the beer is cold and the vibe relaxed. It’s a great chance to get to know the Olympic Peninsula skiing community, many of whom enjoy our love of the backcountry.

For out of town guests, there is a newly opened, affordable lodging option, “The Toadlilly House”. This is a private residence which has been remodeled into a Hostel style lodging configuration. There is room for up to 16 guests in a variety of sleeping options from a private two person room to a six person dormitory style room. The house has several bathrooms and a full kitchen.
