Black Diamond tip loop...And trimming skins?

I'm getting ready to start cutting. Any thoughts or experiences with the Black Diamond tip loop with the screws and plastic tip loop assembly? Can you fix the loop to the ski and yard on the skins to unfold them? IMO, it doesn't look very durable over the long haul.

I've always folded the tip of the skin over a Voile strap with pretty good success. The only down side is the ski edges cut the straps and you can't pull on the skin to unfold them with the strap over the tip of the ski.

And while I'm at it...Any opinions on edge to edge or leaving a millimeter or two on each side of the ski? I've always gone edge to edge, the extra coverage seems to give a little better purchase when side hilling on firmer snow in the spring without slipping.

BD loop with screws and plastic tip...works great IMO....yard away...I've never had an issue and I really like the attachment method..in fact changed all my skins to that...apart from my Colltex ones.
I always put on tip and yard away to separate skins....no failure to date.

On edge to edge... I've always gone edge to edge( but make sure you don't cover up any edge). However my skin cutting has got so sloppy that there's usually a mil or two in certain places.

When cutting... I would highly recommend you use one of the new offset cutters that allow a more precise cut.

I don't unfold my skins that way, but I have nothing but good things to say about the BD tip loops. They have the slim/light profile of hand-sewn or riveted skins and are easy to assemble at home. Have had zero durability issues with them so far, even with the break-off screws (which are also a single-use genius move). Compared with a folded-skin attachment, they're great. Much less snow builds up under the ski shovel.

To unfold my skins, I just grab the skin material itself at both tip and tail and pull. If you like the hook-the-tip-and-then-pull method and you're worried about durability, perhaps unfolding them a little and sticking the shovel section of the skin to the ski can help to shield the tip loop from some of the force?

My preference on edge-to-edge is to leave the steel edges showing, and perhaps remove an extra 0.5-1 mm in order to simplify speedy skin application. Nothing sucks more than not having the edge when I need it. If you're talking about leaving some glue exposed and wrapping the skin over the edge, that might be a ticket to Pine-Needle City?

If your glue is new and a nice thin coat, you can roll your skins which makes them really easy to whip onto the ski.  I don't do it in the spring as much, because the warm glue can sometimes be a mess, but in the winter it works great.  I've never had any issues with the climbing surface getting gunked up.

If I fold them, I put them on the tip and yard away like Chris.  No problems yet.

And to actually answer the question, I like the BD tip loop and it has held up well.

The bd tip loops work fine. Not as low pro/badass as the g3 design, but solid. Durable to use, but easy to strip the plastic screws when you install the hardware.
Using loops on ski tips is the only way to stretch skins.
Always leave edges exposed when skins are installed.
Please don't use voile straps to attach skins if you telemark. It only adds fuel to the fire of A/T'ers ridiculing us.
