Coquihalla Duffey Lake Google Earth Ski touring Map?
Recently a Rogers pass interactive google earth ski map was launched ( rogerspass411.ca/ ) it got me thinking about other areas and the fact that very little is known or told about touring area's in British Columbia. Many people tour with a gps and some of us have accumulated some pretty serious touring files.

We have the Baldwin Maps and guide but with the technology there there is almost no reason to not use the power of google earth to really give insight into area's. Think about traveling to a new area and being able to print an google earth overview to help you have a great ski day.

Then...... comes the challenge. The lawyers and the dreaded liability question. I think this is the reason that it isn't put out there in the public domain.

I have some more thoughts here but I am really looking for insight and feedback if there would be interest in something like this for the duffey and the coquihalla? If you are interested and want to share some gps tracks to help build a resource let me know.

You don't really need the GPS tracks to make a map like Douglas Sproules new Rogers Pass guidebook. Almost positive he did not use GPS tracks extensively for his tracks. I already have a large KMZ with geo referenced photos but these photos are linked from sites like TAY/TGR/Lee Lau. Releasing my creation to the public would amount to copyright infringement due to the photo hotlinks contained within.

I think you may find it hard to start a collaborative project for mapping touring zones. I find that at least in the interior people (locs) are very secretive and unwilling to share specifics to someone who doesn't live in the area. Not sure how the atmosphere is for the Vancouver area but I imagine it may be even worse due to the population pressures on the relatively few access points.

I have never toured in the Duffy but I have spent some time touring the Coq. Mostly I spend my time on Mt. Thor. The real treasures on the Coq are located on the other side of Mt. Thor on the north faces of Nak/Yak. Never had a chance to ski in that area though cause whenever the stability allows for such lines I head to Rogers instead. I really only ski the coq when going to Van. Another fairly fun place to stop on the way to Van is the Manning Park ski resort. Buy a one use ticket, then tour to the east for a ways for good times on stormy days.

Here is a rough and dirty map with my 2 cents on the coq, note I have a different uptrack for Thar then the trade route. A lot of the time when taking that uptrack I just turn around at the upper open bowl at the top of the uptrack.
