Mt Adams in a day... was created by davidG
... including a circumnav after the summit and descent.  Not a ski, but instructive and most worthy.

Ok, that is just nuts. And I thought going from Cold Springs to the summit and back in one day was good. LOL.

Seth Wolpin also recent completed:

A transcontenental run of North America www.sethwolpin.com/p/transcon-run.html

Running around Mt Kilimanjaro www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20130727/DCO/707279950

I attended a slide show of his Everest ascent -- when I asked him what training he did to prepare, he was nonchalent -- "nothing special I ran a a number of ultras -- more stair work would have been helpful"

ha! funny to find this post as a referring url in the stats report of my blog.

Adams was amazing and someday I'd like to learn how to make some turns down a PNW volcano. I'm a complete newbie/wannabie at backcountry skiing so it might be a while! Kite ski up? Paraglide down? Too many things to try.

Just wanted to say these were fun running adventures and Matt Palilla really led the way on Adams (you should see what he is trying to talk me into now), Jacab Slaa was key partner on Kilimanjaro, and Damai Sherpa on the big E. All hard core guys and fun to hang with and these adventures probably not successful w/o them.

Safe turns. Hope you are gettin' some in the PNW :)

A cautionary caveat emptor - the east side of Mt Adams is on Yakima Nation.  I know you used to need a special permit, issued by the tribal government, for crossing the land.  Does anyone know the current legal access requirements for the area?

I suspect that such a permit is still requisite. I think the few folks that have done circumnavigations/climbing/descents on that side have simply not gotten caught. Enforcement is perhaps non-existent, and traffic has probably been low. Climbing on that side of the mountain may go unreported precisely because that land is administrated by and is sacred to the Yakima.

For those that haven't seen it, the E side of the mountain is really beautiful. If you walk NE from the summit cabin to the true summit, the view down toward the Castle and Victory Ridge is excellent.
