Mammut Zephir Altitude Harness vs. BD Couloir was created by skiseattle
I decided to finally replace my old Black Diamond Alpine Bod. I was looking for a harness that has a drop seat, belay loop and was light weight. It's primary mission would be for Ski Mountaineering, but maybe also some boot mountaineering. The ability to put it on while on skis and light weight (about 8 oz) were my primary concerns (and being CE rated). I am about 5 11 and 200lbs, so I wear a size large.
I choose the BD Coulior, but found it to be very difficult to double back and almost impossible to double back with gloves on. The buckle is very small. The swami belt is also very thin - only about an inch of webbing and the rest is just a thin nylon cover. It was uncomfortable hanging for a short time. I think it would be really uncomfortable hanging in a crevasse.
I have been looking at the Mammut Zephir Altitude Harness online, but have not seen it locally. It seems to have a different configuration for the buckle. It seems that it does not need to be doubled back in the traditional manner. The swami belt also seems to be made from a "split" foam technology that looks like it spreads the weight out more.
Has anyone used the Mammut Zephir Altitude Harness or have a suggestion for a another harness in the 8 oz range? Thanks in advance.

I hear ya on the Alpine bod.
That Zephir I have seen is interesting on the buckle. Since I have done the Alpine bod for many years, I trust the double back and too have trouble with gloves. I have neither seen the Zephir up close and am curious too.

Similar experience here with the couloir. I do not like that harness.
My wife picked the Mammut harness up and used it on a Denali trip. She liked it for taking on and off with gloves. After trying the buckle system out I am going to get one for myself.

Has anyone figured out where one can try on the Mammut Altitude Zephir?...looks like the way to go if one could be sure of the size.

Feathered Friends carries the Zephir Altitude. I tried it on a while back and hung from their test rope and I found it a bit more comfortable than the Couloir. One thing I am not sure of is whether the waist strap can come completely apart to be able to put it on without stepping through. It didn't look like it but maybe I just didn't understand how it worked. This could be a deal breaker for some people.

Just picked up the CAMP alp 95. Pretty much the coolest harness for mountaineering I've ever seen.
95grams is pretty much epic!
