Chair peak 5-8 foot crown? was created by androolus
I'm just wondering if anyone has any pictures of the slide in chair peak basin that nwac reported. And also if it slid all the way to source lake. A 5-8 foot crown sounds impressive.

The biggest crown I've ever seen, in person or in a book, was in that basin back in that huge snow winter we had...98/99? It was 20' high in places. It was the first time I climbed Chair (North Face) and we didn't realize the descent would leave us stuck at the top of the crown.

Wow, that is impressive. There have been pix of slides there in the past posted by the Alpy crew.

that one left a little hotel sized pile of debris in source lake. The biggest crown I've ever seen, in person or in a book, was in that basin back in that huge snow winter we had...98/99? Had a fun day out circumnavigating Chair today.
Here's some raw video from a fisheye helmet cam looking at the debris from descending Snow Lake divide. Many slides converging from the greater chair peak basin have pushed the debris pile across Source Lake and plugged up the outlet with a dirt/snow mix and pieces of small trees. Opted for a convenient crossing at the plugged up outlet rather than crossing the main path. Looked like the south flank has about a 8-10' wall carved out.
