I've been using Globstopper (the purple bar wax). Not only did it not work for yesterday's heavy cotton candy, but the snow actually seemed to stick to it.
I used sunscreen to fix the problem. It lasted about an hour. I used to carry Maxiglide as a backup.
Any recommendations?

Hi Tvash,
Several of the sales guys at Marmot said that the Swix F4 paste wax works great on skins. I haven't tried it yet, but makes sense. I too have had marginal success with the Globstopper wax. Wipe on the F4 with fibre or cloth rag, then wipe off excess. Also works on top of skis to help prevent buildup.

Cool. I'll give it a try.
I haven't been too happy with the Globstopper in general.
The Swiss Randoneers apparently hotwax their skins using reg. ski wax...very carefully. 140 F max on the iron. Best to do a test piece, first.

Whatever you use it needs to be done before you leave home.
I have used Nixwax skin wax in pad aplicater (Pricey) on skins . But what I find works best for old dry skins is Armorall just soak em down and rub it in backwards with wax scraper. Again do it before you need it. much cheaper than anything else.
Parrafin wax works too use it just like glop stopper .

I'm not Swiss, and I hot wax my skins regularly, as do most of my touring friends. Use whatever you're using on your skis (usually Swix LF8 for me), rub it on both directions, iron in at ~140 degrees C., brush out tip to tail with a coarse nylon brush. Move the iron about 1.5 to 2 inches per second and you won't melt the plush.
The late great Randosteve Romeo and swixschool.com have videos up using slightly different techniques.

I use Swix F4... lightly applied with the applicator then brushed tip to tail with a fine bristle brush. Doesn't take much...
