Beacons in airline carry-on? was created by joeldiesel
Anyone have any experience carrying avalanche transceivers in carry-on luggage? Heading to UT in March and want to take two beacons (w/o batteries) in my carry-on, but don't want to get to security and have them denied. I guess I could check them with my skis, but hoping to carry-on what i can. Thanks in advance for any info.

Cheers,

Joel

Never had any problems EVAR with beacons in hand carry luggage.....I'd carry some batteries just in case some overzealous TSA dork asks you to turn one on but in the last 8 years..I've never had a problem...EVAR.

Now the same does not go for AVY air bag canisters.....I have numerous personal stories of airport arguments, body searches, shouting and tantrums associated with flying with my air bag canister both to Europe and Canada..PITA I can tell ya!

Thanks! I will carry-on with confidence. Good call on the batteries just in case.

Bring the owners manual with you; that way you can show TSA what it is. Wouldn't hurt.

I have put beacon and GPS in laptop bag and carried on at least a dozen times, without even a question or taking out for inspection after x-ray. I have been asked at check-in if their were any weapons in the ski bag.
