Hey gear geeks (this includes you Marcus ;D),

any experiences with La sportiva skis? Hi5 or otherwise?

Well, the bit of rocker on Voille Vectors is working well for me as a bc tele ski, but I'm looking for something with a bit more backbone for resort play.  Think I'm heading for a 100-ish, mid stiff, rockered shovel, trad camber, flat-ish tail and possibly tapered at each end (what they call 5 point shape, I think) for the managed snow days.

You want the Cham 97.

Yeah, Aaron, saw your info over in the other room.  Got me thinkin in that direction.  Would love to hear more opinions on what characteristics make for a great variable condition, managed snow environment ski, especially for tele ~ if that matters ( not that Michael cares...)   ;)

I love the Cham 97s for alpine and tele turns, I'm using them with NTN Freedom. I think the combination of a fairly stiff ski and stiff flat tail combined with a short radius and softer, not soft, tip is perfect. The tapered tip and tail make turn initiation and release almost effortless in any snow condition. I was initially a little skeptical of the long stiff tail and short radius, but the tail is great for recovery from small airs and compressions. They handle like a much straighter ski, track very well and are damp and stable. For most of the snow I ski, 18" or less they are plenty floaty and playful. I would love to try the 107 HM version in 190 for a deep snow tourer.

I love my Drifters in everything except hard pack or the WROD - just the right amount of tip rise, and no tail rise.

My rockered Rossi S-7s, on the other hand - have taught me I have no need for twin tips. And I don't think the rockered tail helps me any. I'm probably a sloppy skier, but I occasionally catch one tail over another, and it ends badly, most times.
