Binding mount mistake? was created by Chamois
Picked up some BD Aspects (176) on sale with Viole switchbacks. When I got the home saw bindings were noticeably set further back towards tail than my other two skis with tele setup. Went to BD specs page - my read is boot center is 30 in from back, mine is about 25 in. Never had a shop blow it - am I missing something. Just doesn't look right. Was going to use em tomorrow - taking old pair and will bring em in for chat Monday.

I've got the same ski and center is 30" on my rig. 5 inches back doesn't sound good to me. Not easy to miss by that much. I like the ski as it seems pretty good across a variety of conditions but you will want a re-mount to get the performance out of them.

That mounting position is referring to alpine mounts, for tele bindings you'd most likely want it mounted with the pin line at the balance point if the ski, usually it's farther forward thAn the recommended mounting position

Pin line at the balance point is an outdated measurement. It hasn't been valid measurement since tele ski design merged with alpine ski design.
IF you are still skiing a pair of 215 rossignol randonee's from 1984, I would say that pins on the pin line would be a valid way to locate your three pin bindings on your ski.
Most tele mount locations are very close to the boot center mark for alpine mount locating. I usually mount (tele boot center) -1cm behind the alpine boot center mark on the ski, for modern non-traditional cambered skis. (that is rockered or early tip rise skis)
For traditionally cambered modern tele-skis I mount BOF over CRS (ball of foot over the center of the ski's running surface) I will cheat that mount location forward +1cm for dedicated hardpack skis.
.... and I would mount my bindings myself.....

Thanks, and generally, after talking to BD your take is correct. Took skis back, shop manager apologized for the mistake and said would "make it right" - so some refund coming my way. Next time maybe I will be mounting my own. Doesn't look very complicated. Which surprises my how they could screw it up so much given that they must do a load of these. New guy in shop?

Possibly -- shops usually use a jig for drilling the binding holes -- in this case my wild guess is that the tech aligned the "pin-line" mark on the jig with the "alpine boot center" mark on the ski -- that would place the bindings about as far back as you describe.
Measure twice -- drill once!
