Sorry you didn't participate in the fight for righteous causes! :D

Yes, Ya did some good stuff but I think the worst Boomer stuff such as the growth of the MIC and your preoccupation with your mortality and the resulting Health Care Industrial Complex you have created  will be your lasting legacy for the historians to come, certainly not the legacy that the Greatest Generation has and deserved. Boomer will become a derogatory term for a failed generation if it already hasn't.

I think the best civil disobedience would be a demonstration occupying the Nisqually Entrance on weekends, especially sunny days.  But one person would be quickly arrested-sequestered-rendered and released on Tuesday or Wednesday.  It would take enough people to numerically overwhelm the park LEO force--15 people chained together would work.  We have had plenty examples of non-violent civil disobedience in the PNW; that is what it takes to get press-legislator-bureaucrat attention.  Wearing a Disabled/Senior Citizen/Annual/Golden Beagle Pass and your 1040 would add to the drama.  Occupy the Nisqually Entrance!

Organized civil disobedience might be counter-productive.  I've heard that Olympic retaliated against a winter weekday closure protest there by remaining closed for a couple extra days, out of spite.  I do like these low-key approaches, tho:

I've fantasized about carrying stencils and spray paint to alter park signs.  'Men Working' to 'Men Drawing Wages', 'Brains (Chains) Required'; and 'Minds (Road) Closed'..., but there's an easier way to protest a bit without getting arrested.  The Paradise VC and most NPS units have guestbooks where visitors can record their impressions.  If every page had an entry like 'Unlock The Winter Weekday Gates (Westside Road, Sunrise, etc.) - We Want Our Park Back!', it would probably do more to raise awareness among the general public than thirty seconds on the local evening news.  I'm a luddite, but there must also be ways to challenge NPS management via social media?

Blocking Nisqually entrance is not going to win any allies among snowshoers, tubers, hikers, or just sightseers.  I think the NPS would just call in the State Patrol & county deputies at the first sign of trouble.  In the long run, it would just provide more ammunition to the ever-expanding NPS faction pushing for police-state parks:

Another winner for today: "The road from Longmire to Paradise will remain closed today. Sloughing snow continues to block the road as it is being plowed. cjo"

So the plows have time to plow the parking lot to pavement ... but somehow it's not possible to deal with a few problem spots on a few miles of road during the obvious warmup hours when such things might happen. I would love to see pictorial evidence of their definition of "block". Sloughs of loose snow do not usually "block".

I just sent the park an email expressing my concern of the situation, hopefully they start to realize how unhappy us outdoorsmen are. I included a link to this thread too :) With what I wrote, I think they might actually read it. We should all just keep bombing them with emails of concern and maybe something will enventually happen.

Ride and ski on folks ;D

Randy and Chuck (Park Super and Chief Ranger) have us on 'ignore'. They seem to be implementing the REI strategy where if they ignore a few vocal folks for a while, things quiet down and they can do as they please.

My snail mail letters go out to Sens. Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, and Rep. Dave Reichert tomorrow. I'll be copying Sally Jewell if/when she's confirmed. Take ten minutes and do the same...we all have ten minutes to spare.
