Looking for info on the Asulkan Glacier was created by endlesswinter
A group of us is heading out for a B.C. roadtrip and we'll make our way to Revy & Rogers. Last time I was in the area we toured Balu Pass, so I'm excited to explore the Asulkan Valley. It looks like any tour above the Asulkan hut hits glacier. Some route descriptions (Sapphire Col for example) clearly mention crevassed terrain & risk. I was wondering about the 7 Steps route specifically, and the crevasse hazard, as I see no mention. It also doesn't look like (from the misc posted internet pix I found anyway) that folks on this route are harnessed up. Just looking for some intell for proper gear and skill preparations.

I believe there is a guidebook that discusses the standard routes around the pass and would speak to the specific hazards of the different routes. I can tell you that I have never seen anyone with any glacier gear out on the Asulkan or any of the glaciers in the pass during mid winter. The avalanche hazard generally takes precedent. I personally just carry the gear around in case, although many also have no gear at all.
