Another thought is why not complete the loop on skis?
The snowpack is really sufficient right now to complete the section from Narada to Longmire on skis; the ski down Paradise River drainage below Narada past Comet Falls (part of the Wonderland Trail) is a sweet ski... and the last time I looked the log bridge over the Nisqually R. was still in place.
Then a nice mellow trail ski with minimal pushing from Cougar Rock to Longmire. You might considering skipping Narada altogether and exit via Tatoosh Creek to Madcap Falls if you like.
Just an idea.... I always find it rewarding close the loop... especially if I have the elevation to do it with little, if any, additional climbing.

It's a silly law.
I think its a holdover from the media hyped hitch hiking scare in the 80's. . . though it has less to do with crime than that if they don't get picked up they'll have to camp along the roadside impacting resources. . . I digress. . .
Its on the books.
Edit: I'm not saying its a good law, or that it will be enforced, but it exists. LET THE NPS BASHING COMMENCE!!!

FWIW Hitchhiking in the park is illegal.

My wife and I and many others have been successful hitchhiking in MRNP, for example, skiing the Nisqually Glacier down to the bridge, and we've even gotten lifts from LEOs and equipment lifts from maintenance people in other areas (they apologized for not letting us sit in the back of the truck because of safety, but did transport our skis and packs).
I would suspect a lot would depend upon whether or not you were presenting a hazard to traffic. With high snow walls, icy pavement, and heavy traffic, standing on the roadway would not be wise; soliciting from within the parking lot would be safer (but not the kind of aggressive soliciting down by the homeless on the streets of Olympia).
If an LEO decided you shouldn't be breaking the rules, I rather suspect (but do not guarantee) he/she would say "Sorry, but no hitchhiking is allowed in the park" rather than mace you, slap the cuffs on, write you up, and try to explain to a federal prosecutor why that prosecutor should spend a couple of hundred thousands prosecuting someone for hitchhiking.
But as Ron says, Narada to Longmire can be skied pretty easily.

I'd be real surprised if you couldn't get ride right away that time of day just smoozing the folks in the parking lot. Most of them will be heading that way anyway.

Neat idea Ron. Is it possible to stay on the south sides of both Tatoosh Creek and then Paradise River around the constriction below the north and west aspects of Eagle Peak? Or do we have to get across to the north side of the river and onto the Wonderland Trail? I always just assumed it was nasty down there.
Thanks,
John
