We share a love for the great outdoors, specifically the backcountry in the winter. But just how much do we know about the natural life around us while we’re breaking trail and traversing between trees?
Learn from a local expert, Aja Woodrow, at Washington Ski Touring Club’s February program. A wildlife biologist with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Aja will discuss winter ecology and how trees, plants and animals cope with winter conditions. He’ll also talk about tracking and subnivean life.
Then, see it all for yourself during a guided interpretive Nordic ski tour on February 9 or 16 at Summit East. Aja conducts these 90-minute tours through a partnership between the USFS and Summit at Snoqualmie. Meet at Grand Junction at 10AM, which is where the program begins and ends. The tour is free but you’ll need a trail pass―available at the Summit East Nordic Center―to get to Grand Junction. Call 425.434.7669 or 425.434.6111 for more information.
At the meeting we’ll also review upcoming one-day and overnight trips and touch briefly on lingering club business. And, a highlight of the evening, we’ll give away a $50 gift card to REI. Must be present to win.
