Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the great conditions for both resort and backcountry skiing over the holiday season.

The first Washington Ski Touring Club program of the year has come up quickly – tomorrow – and we hope you can join us at REI Seattle for a FREE program featuring the Dynamic Duo of John Stimberis and John Scurlock . Both presented separately for us last season and subsequently worked on a project together to document new avalanche chutes and activity off of I-90. They’ll present photographs and findings of their work.

We’ll review upcoming one-day and overnight trips and touch briefly on any lingering club business. We’ll also give away a $50 gift card to REI to help you get the piece of gear that Santa didn’t bring. (Must be present to win.)

Stimberis is a WSDOT Avalanche Forecaster and Alpental Ski Patroller. As he likes to put it, he hopes he never meets you during his work. Scurlock is a mountain aerial photographer whose book, Snow & Spire: Flights to Winter in the North Cascade Range , was published November 2011. He had the distinct honor of flying Ruth Fremson, the New York Times photographer for Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek , in his plane while she snapped the photographs accompanying the comprehensive story that’s raised the bar on digital journalism.
