Best lifts in Tahoe? was created by nickwiarda
I'm heading to Reno/Tahoe toward the end of January and want to get a day on the lifts but I know nothing about that area. Any suggestions from locals or the Tahoe-experienced?

Thanks!

Hhhhmmmm one day? I probably should not respond...I'm a lift ski area kinda guy - basically lazy. We usually do the Tahoe area in late March or early April (before most of the areas close the fun stuff). Typically only do the big four at most - Heavenly (great tree skiing!), Squaw, Alpine and Kirkwood (I do like Kirk). Best lift in Tahoe - KT-22 at Squaw with out a doubt, biggest straight up a mountain vert, huge amount of terrain to ski off it, lots of steep slots, tree and rock slot skiing, big bumps if your into that world (I am), usually no lift lines when I've been there. (Granite area of Squaw probably has some of the most varied almost backcountry skiing, with hike to options). Next best would be Scott Chair at Alpine, rocks, slots, trees, slow triple(?), but all fall line with lots of hidden lines all over the place. Tahoe has an incredible number of ski areas (havent done Rose but would like to). Locals need to respond about all the other small areas - if they are willing. Was thinking about heading into Canada or Colorado for our February ski trip - but maybe we should do Tahoe and hit more of the other areas - kinda like a Glen Plake road trip.

Depends on the weather and where you are staying - will you be in North Lake/Trukee or South Lake during your stay?

Jill and I have ski passes at Tahoe and the best place to ski depends on the weather and your type of interest. Remember that the day you ski with high winds limits all lifts along the Crest.  The place to go is Bryan Allegnetto website:

Open Snow, The Tahoe Daily Snow

All ski areas have a link with weather,...

. I am also planning a trip to Tahoe in late January. I have a good understanding of where to ski up high. In the north Tahoe region, where does one ski powder during a storm?
