Join the Friends of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center as we bring together seasoned backcountry professionals along with experts from other industries in a 6-workshop series aimed at providing tangible solutions to improve decision making in the backcountry.  Each workshop will be an interactive experience that probes deeper into our decision making process and teaches new techniques to improve those decisions.  Come prepared to participate and takeaway some valuable techniques for your next tour.  Everyone (pros and recreationalists alike) is welcome, and some backcountry experience or avalanche education is necessary to fully participate in the interactive sessions.

This first session begins next Thursday (December 6th) at the Outdoor Research Store with  doors opening at 6pm.  Session #1 title: Making the Call: Craftsmanship and Relevancy in Snowpack Observations.  Colin Zacharias, Canadian IFMGA mountain guide and recognized avalanche guru, will be the guest facilitator.  This session is an interactive discussion on the challenges faced by professionals and recreational ski tourers alike: how to sift through the information provided by the bulletin, the experts, and the snow and make your own hazard and risk forecast.

This is as close to a no-brainer as you will ever get. FOAC is subsidizing this seminar so that you all get to pay a ridiculously low price of $10.00!

For those of you that know Colin, enough said. For those that don't, all you need to know is that when professionals need training, they hire Colin.

He is the best of the best in the avalanche education field, having been an instructor with the CAA for over a decade, and the AIARE Technical Director for the past Six (?) years. In addition, Colin teaches Guide Certification courses. His depth and breadth of knowledge coupled with his low-key, ego free teaching style makes for a high-quality learniing experience. Don't think, just GO!, and thank-you FOAC for stepping up to the plate to bring Colin to the Seattle area.
