Lowell, I did forward the video to Seth. Here is a link to all of the video's Dennis uploaded to Youtube that appear to be shot 8mm from the 1930s on. Great stuff.

While I don't have definitive proof, I believe the mullet was invented at Hyak as well.

Ron,

Sorry. I have no video of the Carbon River descent. However, here is the link to the image and caption: www.thenewstribune.com/2012/10/24/2342788/looking-back.html

Interesting stuff. Loved the old HYAK footage, and remembrances of my early days there in the early 60's. I once modified a water ski from Jr. high wood shop a bit and had a friction pad for grip. But the lack of real edges made her a gravity bi*#% and after a couple days of play, forever retired. Could argue these were the predecessors of Burtons board but kinda like comparing a blunderbuss to an AR 15. Out of the inventors closet was also a pair of stainless pre-tensioned toe pieces with engaging tabs that "grabbed" two indentions cut into the boot toe. Never intended for touring, it was to minimize mass and lower the boot sole to the ski. Never seen it? no worries, never got past some field testing. And last, mounting our Spademan bindings upside down into routed
(Scott) boot soles was quite the look. The skis only had the plates on them, were theft-proof for all intents and purposes and there was zero clearance between the ski and boot sole. Ahh, the good ol' days :D
