There was definitely a moose sighted (with photos) near the campground at (in) Ross Lake.
I don't think the moose was seen with a squirrel.

Wolfs have been in the high country of the Suiattle drainage about 22 - 24 years ago. Maybe moved on by now but they resided up here for a few years at least. A very isolated spot, Downey Mtn. way trail heading toward Pilot peak used to see a fall pack party (hunters) and maybe 10 fisherman a year. I spent a scary night up there once with 2 that I can confirm, large canines poking around the perimeter of camp after dark. These were not Coyotes and we took their lack of fear pretty seriously. We've come across hours old Cougar tracks and I don't recall a time going in that we didn't cross paths with Bear. Very wild little corner of the Cascades and our encounter goes back to a time the state didn't acknowledge their (wolfs) existence aside from roamers coming down from B.C. or venturing over the Idaho border. I have always been suspect of what the state says as they only know what they know and that isn't everything. Now don't Y'all head up there to fish or hunt unless the road closure and a 2 day trudge in are your cup of tea! Great view of Dome Peak and lots of "woodsy"company if you do.

Here in Oregon it is estimated we have
28 wolves with more on the way
. Not sure how many packs that translates to though.
Oregon's favorite wolf has been vacationing in California recently. I think he likes snowy volcanoes as he visited both Crater Lake and Lassen this winter:

There are wolves 'all over' Vancouver Island. From the glaciated areas of Strathcona Park to the wild beaches of the west coast of the island. I haven't seen them in the alpine there, but have had personal experience with them on at least three separate beach camps. Last summer we were camped below Brooks Penninsula, and at early twilight I caught sight of a moving shape foraging among the kelp on rocks at low tide ~ a great rush as I approached to investigate ~ he saw me and casually ambled down the beach and was 100 yds along as I reached the water ~ fantastic - then the hair stood up on the back of my neck for some unknown reason and immediately a second wolf bounded off the rock behind me, not 10 ft away ~ hadn't seen it ~ we made eye contact and simply agreed to go our separate ways. Woof!
Please, no ecological lectures - I'll only beat you down with jungle law..
Here's a pic from another camp
