Help deciding between K2 Rictor or Aftershock

Timely question for me. I'm making the same decision. Maybe a little more experienced on the slopes than your buddy, in that I am comfortable skiing most resort runs (at least when I was in decent shape).

After reading many reviews, and taking realistic stock of how and where I would use these, I am leaning toward the Rictor. Sounds like a solid, yet forgiving ski that can do most things well, but meant for resort runs. Plus, on a good day, I like the bumps and figure the narrower waist and bigger side-cut will be better with the Rictors.

Good luck to your pal.

Not to flog this to death jibber (or anybody) but do you perceive a noticeable difference between 15m turning radius (Rictor) and 16m (Aftershock)?

I think the Rictor is the evolution of the Recon ski?  The Recon ski was made to function similarly to the Recon snowboard, which I rode for a while.  Ditched it pretty quickly because though quick from edge to edge it had a small turning radius.  I found that when I pushed hard in turns instead of digging deeper trenches and scrubbing speed through friction, the recon sb turned even tighter.  It felt too "hooky," and, though stable going straight, was unnerving in how ready it was to carve around and get sideways in a fraction of a second.

Anyway 15m vs 16m much different?

edited to report:

from a Rictor vs. Aftershock discussion on epicski, a very knowledgeable contributor said: The Aftershock is the best front side ski to come out of K2 since I don't know when, it has been that long. While it is a bit beefier and stiffer than the Rictor, it is not a demanding ski to ski at all. Go for it.

Yes, from what I've read, the Rictor replaced the Recon and the Aftershock replaced the Xplorer.

Not sure about the turn radius thing, just know that I am an old-school slalom and bump skier, so like sidecut and a narrower ski under foot (80mm vs 86).

I am sure the Aftershock is a "better" ski for a twenty or thirty something hard charger. I used to be that guy (have a pair of Voelkl G4's in the basement). But now I am a mild mannered fourty something who likes a fun night at Alpental every now and then.

Looking forward to seeing your buddy blow past me on his Aftershocks. They sound like great skis.
