Wind speed/exposure benchmark was created by Koda
I'm learning to put a number on my benchmark for wind exposure. I'm breaking it down into two categories; above timberline (exposed) / below timberline (less exposed).

Last Wednesday on a tour into Newton (hood) we poked our nose just above timberline pushing to gain more ground and a longer run. It wasn't the worst wind I've been exposed to, but was enough we decided it wasn't worth it since visibility temporarily went south too and so retreated back to the timberline edge for a glade run. Wind history shows me it was only 8(avg) with gusts to 23mph... it felt like it was gusting in earnest. Perhaps if visibility was better our decision might have been different, but my thought was glad the wind wasn't stronger. perhaps 20 is a good mark...

I'm curious what other folks forecast benchmarks are for wind speed exposure, above timberline and below? ...and if you include 'gusting' in your benchmark?

Winds

so 10 (ideal) to 20 (max) above timberline (exposed). Lots of information in there, thanks for sharing the link.
