that rope is gonna do a lot of good if the hangfire lets loose ???

I don't know that it would help much with hang fire but it sure would be a good catch if he lost his footing. Grant's description of the bed surface sounded sketchy and if that's the crown on Hemi's then it's over a decent amount of exposure.

Maybe he had to use the rope just to drop into the Hangfire? That is a long drop in.
