Question sbout K2 climbing skins? was created by jds
I'm in the market for new skins for my 2009 K2 AT skis. I've read conflicting reviews of the new green skins (that they are great going up but have reduced glide) and I'm wondering how they compare to the previous gray K2 skins, or others on the market. Anyone have experience with these? Many thanks! – Judith

I have experienced the same thing - great up but reduced glide.
I've also noticed they tend to curl on the edges and collect snow between the ski and the glue, especially near the tip and tail.
My G3 alpinists skins have great glide but seem to be one of the poorer performers on the uphill.

My grey K2 skins had serious glue problems in about half a season. Thankfully REI replaced them with the green ones.
I agree the glide is not great. My wife's Ascension skins have a much better glide and I read that Acension's skins will have improved glide next year.
I love the K2 tip and tail system, but I immediately trimmed them to about 8-10 inches back to resolve the problem with snow getting under the skin. Even with this I still managed to get snow under the skin during a difficult trail breaking day.
Eventually I may cut off the tip and tail and attach them to a pair of Ascension, mohair, or Gecko skins.

Thanks for these comments. I also really like the attachment system but I might give the BD skins a try.

La Sportiva uses the same K2 attachments, but perhaps different skin material. Pricey.

If you really want to customize your skins you can buy the K2 tip and tail attachments from the La Sportiva website.
