Join us for free Weather Forecasting for Mountaineers Seminar by Michael Fagin At the Mountaineers Center

Understanding and predicting mountain weather is a critical skill. Come learn from an expert. Michael Fagin is founder of Washington Online Weather ( www.wowweather.com ) and Everest Weather ( www.everestweather.com ), an Alpine Scramble grad and a professional weather forecaster.

Mike will explain weather planning you need to climb peaks at home or around the world.  He will begin  with a discussion of weather patterns during our popular climbing season here in the Pacific Northwest, explaining the “machinery" of mountain weather - what forces give us wet or dry conditions, how to predict what’s headed our way.
He will  tell us where to find the best weather information before leaving  home, and then will discuss forecasting in the field:  What do  various cloud formations portend?  Does that shift of wind direction  mean anything? Is that gray sky benign or is it time to turn tail and  scat?
However, Mike also does forecasting for international  expeditions, including Mt. Everest.  He will cover typical weather  patterns in the Andes and Himalayas, and will explain how modern communications allow climbers to get weather data and forecasts even  in remote locales.

This hour long program will provide you with all the tools you need to make an accurate forecast but not bogged down with all the technical jargon.  Reduce your mountain misery quotient.  Learn skills to help you keep dry, happy and safe.
