Mt. Baker Avalanche was created by tomq
With 110 inches of snow in six days and rising snow levels, a huge avalanche released on Shuksan Arm - the biggest the manager has seen in 40 years. The Baker web site called it a 100 year event. Downed trees from the weight of heavy snow closed Hwy 542 yesterday.

I checked it out on Saturday and the amount of snow that moved is incredible. The damage to trees is mind blowing and the distance that heavy snow moved up the walls of the gully at the top of the gully is scary. Places that I consider to be safe from normal avalanche activity were anything but safe.
