yummy yurt meals was created by juan
heading out for a week in a yurt in some powder with 5 others. We will be hiking food and gear in. I have some ideas on meals, but looking for any stellar recipes. I'll be cooking breakfast and dinner once each for the whole group. I was thinking of pre-preparing something, keep to frozen, and re-heat at the yurt.
Any great ideas out there?
Cheers,

Not a recipe, but I won't go on an overnighter again without a pound of pre-cooked bacon. Fry it at home until almost crispy, let it cool, then take fat coated bacon. Great for breakfast, or adding to soups and other things.

agree about the bacon, definitely pre-cook it its easy enough to preserve. Same for breakfast sausage. The mess it creates cooking is not worth it on a yurt trip but most of all its time consuming in light of other preparations. The only problem pre-cooking it for me though, is not eating any...
One breakfast recipe that stood out to me on a hut trip was Risotto topped with Hollandaise sauce and a poached egg on top. (sausage and bacon on the side). That breakfast powered me all day of touring.

I always like Thanksgiving:
Dried cranberries, gravy packets from grocery store, add water stovetop stuffing, canned or precooked turkey, instant mashed potatoes.
Also, fajita can be good, precook, put in ziplock and carry in. Tortillas, salsa, guac packs from trader joe.
Breakie - Can make irish oats by cooking for a few minutes, then leaving overnight and heating in the AM, brown sugar and dried fruit bit stirred in. Way better than instant oats. Oh, and add bacon.
No bake Jello cheese cake for dessert, super tasty, fairly light, takes a couple pans or dishes, but tastes awesome.

I'll offer some of my favorites, these are not all that great if your packing it all in on your back, but can still work; a pan full of mac n cheese prepared in advance is super easy, and very satisfying, as is a one pot batch of pesto spaghetti same with a pan full of lasagna, for something sweet, I buy a box of COSCO brownies and make a monster batch, they always seem to go away!
