Hi,

thanks for your kind replies :-) I think we will take the window beginning to end of June and adapt to the short-term conditions.

Maybe we will see at Rainier in June :-) I will put a post into "Planned Trips: partners wanted" and email all who are interested in joining us...

Looking forward to Rainier, Michael.

PS: This was my last trip: fotoalbum.web.de/gast/greulich/Watzmannkind If one if you visits Germany don't miss this mountain: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watzmann

June is most often stormy in the Cascades/Rainier, but good weather windows can happen.
My only ski from the summit was June 4th, 1998 and we had 3 foot snow drifts at the door of the Sherman hut.

As noted by others, the road to the White River campground typically opens for Memorial Day weekend.  Snow conditions and weather in June can be quite variable, but usually a window will open in the time you are planning.  My climb and ski experience of the Emmons in mid-June found icy and hazardous windblown snow conditions above 12K with open crevasses which limited the safe skiing to the lower elevations, but this will likely vary year to year.  On the other hand, on July 4th on the South side Furher Finger route, the skiing was superb from near the summit to Paradise on moderately steeper terrain.  I would recommend considering the S. slopes and routes on Rainier in later June or early July (often just after July 4) for best consolidated ski conditions and weather.   For the amount of time you are planning, I would also consider Mt. Hood and Baker routes as options in preparation for Rainier, or Adams at end of June.
