After reading the very thoughtful comments on the search for the missing climbers and the informed discussion about assessing the risk of mountain travel, I'm wondering if this community of backcountry skiers/boarders could put together either a single or a series of public service announcements (usually 30-60 second videos) to try to get the word out on how to be prepared and safe for mountain travel. It is tragic that every year we lose people in the backcountry and often they might have prevented disaster if they were better informed in either how to prepare (i.e. clothing, route planning, weather assessment) or what to do when lost.
It would be a worthy project if we had a group willing to put their skills together to create them. I'd be happy to shoot video and edit. With the ability to stream them on the web, perhaps have the park service use them at their visitors centers, etc., we might be able to reach the intended audience.
