Tele on K2 Pontoons anyone try? was created by LisaQ
I am looking for suggestions and dialogue about using K2 Pontoons and variations in binding set-up. I have a pair of Pontoons with an NTN Rottefella set up. Took them out for 3 runs (in-bounds) in sub par powder conditions and had to get off of them before I hurt myself or others. I couldn't consistently get the binding and toe to flex with so much pop in the ski. Wondering if it is worth switching to a G3 like set up and drilling new holes in the ski or should I just make them a heel locking ski:(? Anyone out there with some suggestions, similar experience or just an opinion? Thanks!

If you haven't been on NTN beforehand, you might try dialing back the tension. Blue 3 was exhausting, but it's the recommended setting for me. I'm at Green 2.5 now which is more comfortable and usable. Also I find touring mode on the boots is more comfortable on low angle slopes.

I don't have the full rocker Pontoon, but my Hardsides do have some rocker and are fairly weighty. Good Luck!

Thanks for the Pontoon porn. It can be done! So, I'm thinking, more powder, better terrain choice on my part and try again:>. Thanks again for the fun pick me up!

I've been on the NTN set up two seasons now on a pair of Pro Rider Dynastar skis. They work great most of the time. I like the option of sliding the Rottefella off one quiver and onto another to suit snow conditions. Thanks for the suggestion on dialing back the binding. I'll check into changing up the color/tension set-up and see what happens. I have considered wearing a weight belt (~20lbs) to push down the skis more. Don't get me wrong, I weigh plenty, but am amazed at how difficult it is to get the ski on the snow surface in tele mode, while flexing the toe piece. Maybe I'm missing the point.........shouldn't be touching snow at all?:)

It's hard to say from your description, but one issue I had with NTN when first using them in deeper snow was keeping the inside ski from diving. NTN seems to demand a more compact stance, front to back -- i.e. your trailing foot is tucked in right behind your leading foot in the turn. Once I adapted a bit I was much more able to break the bellows and weight the ski without feeling out of control. It took a bit of an adjustment, but skied great after that. Dialing back the spring tension a bit definitely helped in the short term.
