Tele questions was created by Chris
I have a pair of k2 antipistes set up for rando and I'm considering changing them over to tele. I am hoping to learn/ski them inbounds on easy groomers while skiing w/ my kids.

I don't know anything about tele but do know the skis have tele inserts so I am assuming I can mount some tele bindings pretty easily. Looking for an inexpensive binding and boot recommendation to consider. I'm not too concerned about weight as I don't anticipate touring in the gear, just skiing inbounds groomers.

& one last thing, I think there are probably options to mount the bindings more forward or rearward so recommendations on binding position for a beginner also needed.

thanks much

I've been using the RTxbulldog's by burnt mountain which have worked pretty well inbounds and in the BC. Apparently the toe box can be switched from Duckbill to NTN easily.
They don't have releasability, but the step in feature is great. I mainly purchased them due to price and lower weight for touring.

Although, If I had the option to buy brand new gear, I would get the new NTN gear that has releasability.

I also like the Burnt Mtn stuff -- I have some NT Dogs burntmtn.com/ -- FWIW: Burnt Mtn is garage operation and is steadily getting new innovations and improvements. But note that the current models sport a six hole mount pattern -- you can use the inserts on the skis -- but there are two additional mounting holes on this year's base plate that you'll either need to ignore or drill holes for. The extra holes are there to make the mount strong enough to endure certain highly opinionated beta testers of Burnt Mtn bindings with a very low "knee to ski" style of skiing.

NTN Bindings from Rottefella also ski very well and have the advantage of some sort of release mechanism -- the release isn't DIN certified -- but I've released from NTN's and been happy about it.

If you are trying to do things on the cheap side -- you are probably better off getting some 75MM gear -- In fact if you wear a size 10.5 US mens -- I have a pair of old TRace boots and a pair of BD-01 bindings that I think I might be willing to part with at this point.

You should also check out this book: www.amazon.com/Allen-Really-Telemark-Rev...id=1327289293&sr=8-1

Also the Mountaineers offer a weekend camp at Mt Baker in March that is worth considering for getting up to speed on what skiing with a free heel is all about.

anti pistes are more of a 3 dimensional ski. if skiing groomers exclusively i would get something narrower and stiffer, and probably without rocker. they would be a lot of ski to try and learn on and too soft for hard pack\groomer imo. of course it could be done though.

i played with foward and back positions, and in the end i settled on forward. on my tails too much when in the back position.

thanks for the good info everyone. really appreciate it. probably going to target some used 75mm gear (less $) and give it a go.
